Glanis Thompson

Glanis O. Thompson, age 95 of Weber City, VA, formerly of the Frog Level community of Tazewell Co., VA, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at a Weber City, VA health care facility. She was born October 3, 1916 in McCreary Co., KY and was a daughter of the late Pete and Anna Cox Lewis. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed traveling, quilting, working cross-word puzzles, playing Rook and camping. Her favorite times were spent with her late husband, John Ed Thompson, Sr., as they worked together at the former Thompson Service Station at Frog Level, VA. She was of the Christian faith and had previously attended the Pisgah United Methodist Church at Pisgah, VA. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Those left to cherish her memory include, one son, John E. Thompson, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Gate City, VA; two granddaughters, Kimberly Thompson of Tazewell, VA and Maelynn Thompson of Johnson City, TN; two grandsons, John “Toby” Thompson of Bedford, VA and Mark Thompson and wife, Tammy of Gate City, VA; five great grandchildren, Joy Thompson, Staci Thompson, Jakob Thompson, Sarah Thompson and Hannah Robertson; a host of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Glanis O. Thompson will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Danielle Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Toby Thompson, Mark Thompson, Paul Matney, Kelly Collins, Zack Collins and Jakob Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be David Altizer and Billy Altizer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12:00 p.m. noon on Wednesday, June 27, 2012.
