Glen R. Cooper

Glen R. Cooper, age 71, of the Pea Patch section of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Richlands, Virginia on March 1, 1953 and was the son of the late Booker and Pearl Wimmer Cooper. He attended Whitewood High School. He retired from CONSOL VP 8 as an underground miner. He was a member of the UMWA Local #2232. He was a devoted family man, and his family was his greatest joy. He was of the Baptist Faith. Glen was an antique car enthusiast, winning several awards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Penelope Reign Lee Osborne; sisters, Geraldine Reed, Agnes Lester, Patricia “Sue” Lawson; and brothers, Charlie, Mearl, Millard, and Doil Cooper. Those left to carry on his spirit are his: Wife, Shelia Mitchell Cooper Daughters: Nikki Cantrell and companion, Ben Compton of Whitewood, Virginia Shannon Osborne and husband, David of the home Grandchildren: Makynzee Cantrell, Madison Cantrell, Abagayle Cooper, Jeighkob Cooper, Harvey Cooper, and Caroline “Spanky” Osborne Sisters: Yvonne Keen of Whitewood, Virginia and Josephine Shelton of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Father in Law: Jesse Jay Mitchell of Fredericksburg, Virginia Brothers In Law: Glenson Mitchell of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Dallas Mitchell of Spotsylvania, Virginia Sister in Law: Wanda Cooper of Stuart, Virginia Several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive. Funeral services for Glen R. Cooper will be conducted Friday, August 23, 2024 at 1pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Clyde Wimmer officiating. Members of the United Mine Workers District 17 Sub-28 Chaplain Corp will conduct services on Friday. Interment will follow at the Cooper Family Cemetery on Pea Patch. Pallbearers will be: Jeighkob Cooper, Harvey Cooper, Terry Keen, Bradley Lawson, Jacob McClanahan, and Shelby Arnold. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Greg Hatfield and Hot Rod Blankenship. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6pm until 9pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
