MR. HARLIS REED HORN Mr. Harlis Reed Horn, age 67, of Wilkesboro, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Reins Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Horn and the Rev. Joel Horn officiating. Graveside services will be held 3:00 Saturday at Pond Mountain/Miller Wyatt Cemetery in Ashe County. The family will receive at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 until 8. Mr. Horn was born October 1, 1946 in Buchanan, VA to James Howard and Myrtle Effie Keen Horn. Mr. Horn worked for Johnston Casual Furniture and was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. Harlis was an avid bowler and bowled on the Wilkes Business League from 1984-1997 averaging 210 per game. He was honored with an Award of Merit in 1996-97 via American Bowling Congress. He was also awarded a perfect game ring by bowling his first 300 game in 1997. He later became a professional bowler on the Senior Tour. Harlis had a passion for restoring vintage bicycles and took great pride and detail in his work. He restored and sold many bicycles throughout the United States and has one on display in the Audie L. Murphy Museum in Greenville, TX Harlis was an avid bass fisherman all his life. He was awarded his Master Angler in 1977. He was a member of the Wilkes County Bass Masters Club. He was a winner of many tournaments. His biggest catch was an 8.5 lb large mouth bass. Harlis loved Gospel, Country and Bluegrass music and played guitar since childhood. He traveled throughout Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee playing and singing in the band “American Travelers”. The band played many venues raising money for Muscular Dystrophy Association and other charities. The band had their first professional music recording at the Easter Brothers Studio in Mt. Airy, NC. The family would like to send a special thank you to the hospice nurses and the nurses on the 6th floor at Forsyth Medical Center. He was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, brother, papaw and friend. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with lung cancer. He always kept a positive attitude and was always there to brighten the lives of others. His faith and trust in Jesus Christ was strong all the way to the bitter end. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him, but never forgotten. He is survived by; his wife, Debbie Wyatt Horn of the home; three daughters, Suzette Jewell and husband Norwood of Davison, MI, Jodi Bernard and husband George of Garner, Amanda Farmer and fiancée Tommy Faw of Purlear; one son, James Farmer and wife Denise of Millers Creek; grandchildren, Rebecca Farmer of Millers Creek, Nevaeh Edsel, Ryland Faw both of Purlear, Justin Shelton, Joey Bernard both of Garner, Tabatha Spedoske of Portland, MI, Westley Blankenship of Davison, MI, Derik Jewell of Holly, MI, Justin Jewell of Commerce Township, MI; great grandson due August 23, 2014. One sister, Shirley Shortridge and husband Bill of Woodlawn, VA; two brothers, Hartford Horn and wife Doris of Raven, VA, and Bobby Horn and wife Fonda of Whitewood, VA.
