Harry Hodge, Jr.

Harry Hodge, Jr. age 79 of the Witten Valley community of Tazewell, VA passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016 at his home. He was born May 1, 1937 at Newhall, WV and was a son of the late Harry Hodge, Sr. and Ethel Bowman Hodge. Harry attended Big Creek High School and was employed as a Parts Manager at the former Tazewell Equipment and Motor Corp. for over thirty-three years. Mr. Hodge was an avid sports fan who supported the Virginia Tech Hokies, Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Braves. Harry had a green thumb and enjoyed raising a vegetable garden every year, taking pride in his extraordinary tomatoes. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Bundy’s Chapel Baptist Church in Witten Valley, VA. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Woods and Beulah Mullins; one brother, Freddie Hodge. Those who survive to cherish his memory, include his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Betty Hardy Hodge; one son, Michael Hodge and wife, Debbie of North Tazewell, VA; one granddaughter, Leeanne Hodge Billings of North Tazewell, VA; two sisters, Nelda Brewster of Cucumber, WV and Betty Tucker of Newhall, WV; two brothers, Walter Hodge, Sr. and wife, Pat of Beckley, WV and Billy Hodge of Newhall, WV; special niece, Melissa Waddle and husband, Bill of Tazewell, VA; special nephew, Walter Hodge, Jr. and wife, Carol of Richmond Hills, GA; special friend and caregiver, Sharon Duty; a host of other family members and friends also survive. Funeral services for Harry Hodge, Jr. will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. David Taylor and the Rev. John Repass officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be, Henry Christian, Jason Hodge, Bill Waddle, Butch Hodge, Chris Hurley, Blake Woods, Kevin Hardy, and Jason Hardy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. M.R. Javed, Hugh Puckett, Sr., Homer Hardy, Vic Hall, Bob Stilwell, A.R. Beavers and John Mundy, Jr. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2016.
