Harry David Taylor

Harry David Taylor, age 89 of North Tazewell, VA, formerly of Pounding Mill, VA died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at his home. He was born February 11, 1927 at Jewell Ridge, VA and was a son of the late James Howard and Dora Mae Burress Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a 1944 Graduate of Richlands High School, received his Bachelor’s Degree from King College and his Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia. Mr. Taylor was a retired School Teacher and Guidance Counselor having worked for Richlands High School. He was the co-owner of the WYRV radio station and was an on air personality with WRIC and several other radio stations throughout Virginia and North Carolina. He was a member of the Tazewell Lion’s Club and was widely known as the announcer for the Lion’s Club Auction. Mr. Taylor enjoyed working with wood, making fishing rods and he was the owner of Unique Fishing Rods. He was a special man who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Elliot; one brother, Rudolph Taylor; one nephew, Sonny Elliot; one niece, Teresa Taylor. Those who survive to cherish his memory include, two sisters, Charlotte Jones of Ashland, VA and Kay Allison and husband, Bill of Tazewell, VA; five nephews, Billy Allison and wife, Josie (with whom he had made his home) of North Tazewell, VA, Seth Allison of Tazewell, VA, Jim Jones and wife, Kelly of Ashland, VA, Windell Elliot and wife, Lynn of Charlotte, NC and David Taylor of Pounding Mill, VA; four nieces, Patricia Cooke and husband, Les of Ashland, VA, Joanne Elliot of Asheville, NC, Phyllis Walters and husband, Dean of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Jenny Tench of Charlotte, NC; special cousin, Jack Bundy of Tazewell, VA; special friends, Acie Rasnake, Buck Young, Darrell White, Jimmy Brown, Albert Fowler, Dr. Stephen Rinehart and his staff, the staff of Carilion Outpatient Therapy and skilled nursing, and the staff of Legacy Hospice; several grand nieces and grand nephews; other family members and friends also survive. Funeral Services for Harry David Taylor will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Seth Allison, Alex Vanhoozer, Pierce Vanhoozer, Darrell White, Jason Casey and Rocky Fowler. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12:00 p.m. (noon) Saturday, September 3, 2016.
