Hazel Ann Brewster

Hazel Ann Brewster Phillips, age 74 of Thompson Valley, Virginia, passed on to glory on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 21, 1951, in Richlands, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James L. Brewster, Sr. and Iantha M. Whitt Brewster. Hazel was a devout Christian woman who lived a vibrant, family-centered life. Her open heart and open home welcomed many over the years. She spent a lifetime helping others, always making sacrifices regardless of her own circumstances. This deep helping spirit guided her exceptional career as a hospital nurse for many years. A meticulous housekeeper and avid home decorator, Hazel was a particular soul who took great pride in her surroundings. She possessed a deep love for nature, especially camping and fishing. Above all, she cherished spending Christmas with family and friends. Her love for holiday traditions and family recipes was truly unmatched. Hazel also held a profound affection for animals and spoke often of her beloved departed pets, Lucky, Ginger, Tom, and Katie. In addition to her parents, she was reunited in heaven by her sisters, Donna Hope Keen, Bessie Roland, and Mary Francis Honaker; and her brother, William Lee Brewster. Hazel’s legacy of love lives on through her surviving family: her loving husband, who stood faithfully by her side through every step of life’s challenging journey, Raymond “Peanut” Phillips of Tazewell, VA; her sons, Gregory L. Money and wife, Karen of Lake Mary, FL, and Brian Phillips and wife, Stephaney of Bland, VA; her sisters, Lynn Snapp and Connie Cundiff, both of Tazewell, VA, and Phyllis Sanderson of North Carolina; and her brother, James L. Brewster, Jr. of Tazewell, VA. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Maddi Rasnick and husband, Gregory of North Tazewell, VA, Kendra Dooley, and Kasey Frith; great-grandchildren, Hunter Dooley, Riley Christman, and Carter Christman; special nieces, Stacey Rose and Lindsay Smith; and several other nieces, nephews, and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, the family finds comfort in donations being made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The funeral service for Hazel Phillips will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Daniel Bradley officiating. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Danny Phillips, Tom Philips, Gregory Rasnick, Billy Phillips, Bo Snapp, Mason Youther, Bryson Mays, and Chase Reedy.
