Hazel Violet Sparks Hickman

Hazel Violet Sparks Hickman, age 95, of Richlands, VA, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at her home. She was born in Cedar Bluff, VA and was the daughter of the late Ryntha Monroe and Levisa Beavers Sparks. She had made her home in the Richlands area all of her life. Hazel was a Richlands High School Class of 1940 graduate and was the manager of the Super Dollar Store in Richlands for 18 years. She was the evening receptionist for Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands for the past 30 years. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post and was a former member of Eastern Star of Cedar Bluff, Virginia. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin M. “Bus” Hickman; sisters, Lydia Mutter, Ethel Godbey, Dora Hankins, Helen Kestner; brothers, Willie, Leck, Ruel, Elbert, Clarence, and Harvey Sparks; son in law, Larry G. Huffman; and her best friend, Dortha Mabe. Survivors are: Daughters: Mary H. Boyd and husband, James Samuel, Jr. of Claypool Hill, VA Martha Ann Huffman of Front Royal, VA Son: Michael B. Hickman and wife, Anne of Tazewell, VA Brother: Joe Sparks of Cedar Bluff, VA Seven Grandchildren: Jamie Boyd and wife, Christy; John Michael Hickman; Michaela Dawn Hickman; April Lynn Cunningham; Jill Angelena Horn and husband, Don Curtis; J. Ashley Huffman; and Maranda A. Huffman Seven Great Grandchildren: Kyle Bradley Hickman; Zion Grace Compton; Rhiannon Violet Keller; Sara Foster and husband, Nick; Kennis Eric Lester; Olivia Morgan Horn; Claire Elise Horn Three Great-Great Grandchildren: Elle Tyler Green; Nicklaus Foster; and Kylie Madison Billiter Special care giver for the last eight months: April Lynn Cunningham Special caregivers: The staff and nurses of Legacy Hospice in Richlands, Virginia Funeral services for Hazel Violet Sparks Hickman will be conducted Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 7pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Rev. J.C. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow Friday, November 18, 2016 at 1pm at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be: John Hickman, Jamie Boyd, Gene Hurst, Jeff Hurst, Mike Newberry, Hugh Cooke, Paul “Slick” Cook, Jeff Collis, R.C. Cole, and Chris White.
