Helen Harrison

Helen Harrison, age 85, of Richlands, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Commonwealth Assisted Living Memory Care following a lengthy illness. She was born in Seaboard, Virginia and was the daughter of the late George Houchins and Sara Jones Houchins. Helen was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a mother to anyone who needed to mothered, her heart held so much love, it overflowed to all those who needed it. She loved to sew and spent many hours crafting. Helen was a member of the Clearview Methodist Church and attended the First Christian Church of Richlands. She had attended Richlands High School and was a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bert Thomas Harrison; sisters, Irene Giknis, Zola Thompson, Faye Houchins and brothers, Raymond and Arthur Houchins. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Her daughter, Sue Shinault and husband Ronnie of Richlands, VA Her son, Tommy Harrison and fiancée Lucy Hess of Richlands, VA Granddaughter, Heather Wilson of Hillsboro, NC Great-grandchild, Parker Wilson of Hillsboro, NC Sister, Mae Crawford, Tazewell, VA Special nieces, Megan and Beth Cameron of Raven, VA Sister-in-law, Margaret Donaldson of Orlando, FL Brothers in Law: Keith Harrison of Tampa, FL Charlie Thompson of North Tazewell, VA Maurice Harrison and wife Robin of Staunton, VA Mouse Boyd and wife, Marian of Raven, VA Special caregiver and friend Kitty Griffith, several nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends also survive her. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. The funeral service for Helen Harrison will be conducted at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Scott Robertson-Gouge officiating. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Family and friends wills serve as pallbearers. The family will begin receiving friends at 12:00 pm on Saturday until time of the service at 2:00.
