Helen McClelland

Helen B. McClelland, age 84 of the Gratton community of Tazewell, VA, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at her home. She was born February 5, 1928 in Tazewell County, VA and was a daughter of the late Robert and Callie Sargent Ball. Mrs. McClelland loved her flower gardens and enjoyed working with her beautiful flowers, when her health permitted. She had a green thumb, and could make flowers grow almost anywhere. She was a retired electronics technician having worked for McGraw – Hill for many years. Helen loved springtime, a time for both flowers and baseball; she was a true Atlanta Braves fan, her favorite player being Atlanta Braves Hall of Famer #3, Dale Murphy. Mrs. McClelland was a lovely lady who will be missed by all her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Raymond “Ray” McClelland; ten brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Linda Uhl and husband, Robert of Tazewell, VA; one son, the Reverend Kenneth Gillespie and wife, Lois of Tazewell, VA; one sister, Geraldine Brewer of Mt. Carmel, IL; one brother, Joe Ball of Springville, VA; three grandchildren, Melissa Dye of Tazewell, VA, Michael Bush and wife, Jennifer of Florida, and Steven Gillespie and wife, Karen of New Market, TN; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a host of nieces, nephews other family members and friends. Graveside Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 25, 2012 at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA with the Rev. Kenneth Fields and the Rev. Jack Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow the Graveside Services. Pallbearers will be Michael Bush, Steven Gillespie, Ronnie Brewer, Robbie Brewer, David Ball and Robert Uhl. Honorary pallbearer will be Blake Dye. The family will receive friends at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA from 12:00 p.m. (noon) till 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012. Those planning on attending the Graveside Services and would like to travel with the family in the procession are asked to be at the funeral home no later than 1:30 p.m. In addition to floral expressions, the family request memorial donations be made to Legacy Hospice: 1963 Second Street: Richlands, VA 24641.
