Henry Cantrell

Mr. Henry Daniel Cantrell, age 84 of Jewell Ridge, Virginia passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at a Richlands area hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and was the son of the late, Alexander and Florence Tennessee Grizzle Cantrell. Henry was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in World War II. He was a retired Mine Foreman for Pittston's Jewell Ridge Coal Company. He especially enjoyed a day of hunting or fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was of the Baptist faith and was a lifetime resident of this area. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters, one grandson, one great-grandson and five siblings. Those who survive him are: His loving wife of 60 years, Thelma B. Cordle Cantrell of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Sons: Don Ray Cantrell of Havana, Florida Harold Cantrell and wife Diana of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Daughters: Sue Hughes and husband Ruben of Piqua, Ohio Ellen Horn and husband James of New Castle, Virginia Evelyn Bernice Perkins and husband Danny of Swords Creek, Virginia Sisters: Daisy Cantrell of Tipp City, Ohio Victoria Dotson and husband Mertie of Pekin, Indiana Nora Thompson of Tipp City, Ohio Dora Barns and husband Charlie of Tipp City, Ohio 14 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren also survive along with a host of family and many, many wonderful friends. Funeral services for Henry D. Cantrell will be held, Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Earl Cole and Lance Horn officiating. Interment will follow at the Cantrell Family Cemetery on Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearer will be Dr. Larry Mitchell. Members of the Casey-Short VFW Post #9640 will conduct military gravesite rites.
