Ida Wimmer Compton

Ms. Ida Lectie Compton, age 88 of the Compton Mountain section of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia, was surrounded by her loving family when she drew her first breath in heaven on Sunday, March 14, 2012. She was born in Pilgrims Knob, Virginia and she was the daughter of the late Riley and Laura Bell White Wimmer, who were former Pilgrims Knob natives. Lectie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She loved to be outdoors and spent most of her life gardening. In the winter when she had to stay indoors, she would make beautiful quilts for her family so they would always be covered with her love. She very rarely left her mountain home, she saw no reason to go anywhere else and would argue with you if you tried to get to go to the store or the doctor. She was of the Pentecostal faith and was a lifetime resident of the Compton Mountain and Pilgrim Knob areas. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Daniel Warner Compton; daughter, Nancy Carol Compton Ray; Son-in-law, Peck Ray; Four sisters and three brothers. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Her son: Charles E. Compton and wife Trula of Compton Mountain, VA Sister, Rebecca Blankenship of Thompson Valley Grandchildren: Arlene Compton Skeens and Jason Stacy of Compton Mountain, VA Bonnie Compton Viers and husband,Freddie of Compton Mountain, VA Daniel “Junior” Ray and fiancée Wanda Ratliff of Pounding Mill, VA Pamela Compton Daniels and husband,Rogie of Amhurst, VA Charley Nicole Compton of Hale Creek, VA Special great- granddaughters, Brandie Skeens, Jessica Viers and Ashley Viers. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Ida Lectie Wimmer Compton will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Living Word Outreach Church in Whitewood, Virginia with the Rev. James Ray, Rev. Jimmy Cole and Rev. Clell Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at the Warner Compton Family Cemetery on Compton Mountain. Pallbearers will be Junior D. Ray, Freddie Viers, Rogie Daniels, D.J. Skeens, C.W. Viers, Bolden Daniels, Hunter Daniels and Jason Stacy. Honorary Pallbearers will be RC. Cole, Nephews , Dr. Vish and the staff of Special Care. Friends may call Friday and Saturday evening at the Living Word Outreach Church in Whitewood, Virginia from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.
