Jack B Hale

Jack B. Hale, age 83, of Richlands, Virginia passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on the Russell County side of Drill Mountain and was the son of the late Holland and Leoma Hurt Hale. He had spent most of his life, driving coal trucks and later worked for the Jewell Smokeless Coke Ovens before retiring. Jack spent many hours coon hunting and loved to ride horses, even competing in several horse shows. He loved spending time with his dogs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine Wade, Evalee Deskins and brothers, William Hale, Bob Hale and Bill Hale. Those who survive him are: Son, Dennis Hale of Swords Creek, VA Daughters: Brenda Kay Street and husband, Homer of Ruckersville, VA Rebecca Bucklen of New York Shelia Cook and husband Richard of Tazewell, VA Alice Hill and husband Tim of Abingdon, VA Canine companions, Trailblazer and Reece Sisters: Marie Hylton of Oakwood, VA Mildred Matney of Contrary, VA Elsie Boardwine of Rosedale, VA Eulala VanDyke of Defiance, OH Lillian Shortridge of Marvin, VA Brother, John Hale of Swords Creek, VA Grandchildren: Wendy Mitchum and husband, John; Kelli Perkins and husband Jeff; Roscoe Lee Bucklen, Israel Bucklen, Colton Cook and wife Lauren; Bridgit Cook, Sabrina Hill, Whitney Hill Great grandchildren, Parker Lee Hill and Mary M. Bucklen, and four step great grandchildren also survive him along with a host of family and friends. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hurst-Scott Funeral Home. Funeral services for Jack Burton Hale will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Grady McGlothlin officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Dennis Hale, Israel Bucklen, Colton Cook, Eric Lester, Gary Meadwell and Tommy Grindstaff. Honorary pallbearers will be Homer Street, John Mitchum and Rick Cook. The family will receive friends from 11:30 pm – 1:00 pm on Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.
