Jackie Franklin Young

Jackie Franklin Young, age 71, of Raven, Virginia passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 at home following a brief illness. Jack was born in Red Ash, Virginia and was the son of the late Kenious Roscoe and Nannie Bell Miller Young. He was a 1958 graduate of Richlands High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the former Chief of Police for the Town of Richlands, Virginia and also a member of the Richlands Rescue Squad and Fire Department. He was also a member of the Richlands Masonic Lodge #318 AF & AM and the O’Keeffee Royal Arch Chapter #26. Jack volunteered at Pioneer Days at Fort Witten, Virginia and was a Scout Master of several troops. He enjoyed shooting muzzleloaders at targets, shooting a bow, and playing musical instruments. He enjoyed to paint, play bingo and go bowling. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Casey Shortt VFW Post # 9640 and was of the Scottish rites. Jack was a giver, he loved to help others and never wanted recognition for himself, he was a lifetime resident of the area and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by: His Wife of 48 years, Wilma Jearlean Lawson Young One Daughter: Sherry Renae White and husband, John of Richlands, Virginia One Son: Todd Anthony Young and wife, Carolyn of Grundy, Virginia Four Grandchildren: Rachel Mae Breeding, Jacob Emory Owens, Bethanie Renae Sizemore Michael Blake Sizemore and wife, Whitney One Great Grandchild, Olivia Eleanor Sizemore Funeral services for Jackie Franklin Young will be conducted Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Jerry Welch and Eugene Whited officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be the officers of the Richlands Police Department. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Danny Puckett, William Puckett, Stanley Barnett, Wade Casey, Johnny Honker, Wayne Via, and Darrell McGlothlin. Friends may call from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm Saturday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia; 1401 Second Street; Richlands, Virginia. There will be a Masonic service at 7:00 pm on Saturday.
