James "Abb" Vencill

Mr. James Albert “Abb” Vencill, age 85 of Cedar Bluff, Virginia passed away, Sunday, November 23, 2008 at a local Richlands, Virginia hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Belfast, Virginia and was the son the late Ranz and Mary Vencill former Tazewell County natives. Abb spent most of his life as a horse and cow trader and was a lifelong resident of the area. He had served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart medallion. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Payne Vencill two daughters, Barbara Sue Vencill, Shirley Ann Vencill, one son, James Albert Vencill, Jr. and one step-son, Wallace Smith. Those who survive to carry on his spirit are: His loving wife, Katherine Vencill of Cedar Bluff, VA His daughter, Peggy Sheets and husband Bev of Bristol, VA His son, Albert D. Vencill and wife Patty of Baptist Valley, VA Step-daughters: Sandra Smith of Raven, VA Kathy Anders of Richlands, VA Selena Johnson of Raven, VA Linda Payne of Tazewell, VA Step-sons: Rocky Smith of Seven Mile Branch, VA Mack Payne of Tazewell, VA Gary Payne of Front Royal, VA G.W. Payne of Front Royal, VA Four Grandchildren: Rickie Vencill and wife Tammy Walter Vencill and wife Celenna Melissa Osborne and husband Randall Kenny Sheets Several step-grandchildren also survive along with 6 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Special caregivers and friends: Staff of Heritage Hall Nursing Home Funeral services for James Albert Vencill will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Monday evening, November 24, 2008 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Paul Kinder and Rev. Craig Barber officiating. Interment will follow at the Crouse Family Cemetery in Baptist Valley, Virginia. Friends and Family will serve as pallbearers and the Staff of Heritage hall Nursing Home will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Casey-Shortt VFW Post will conduct Military Services.
