James Absher

Mr. James T. Absher age 90,of the Road Ridge Section of Raven, Virginia went to meet his Lord on May 31, 2005, surrounded by his family and friends singing his favorite hymn, "Amazing Grace" following a lengthy illness. He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late Charles Allen and Rena Belle Chambers Absher both Tazewell County, Virginia natives. He was a lifelong resident of the Raven, Virginia area. He was a Retired Self-employed Logger and Excavator and a Retired Coal Miner. He was a member of the Fork Ridge House of Prayer church in Raven, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife: Carrie Green Absher, One Son; Thurman David Absher; 3 Sisters: Mattie Stilwell, Artie Keen and Maxie Williams; 4 Brothers: Dewey, Roy, Lloyd and William Absher. Survivors are: 2 Daughters: Mrs. Karen Johnson and husband, Danny of Raven, Virginia Mrs. Lois Osborne and husband, Tommy of Raven, Virginia 6 Sons: Jerry Absher and wife, Emma of Raven, Virginia Travis Absher and wife, Margaret of Raven, Virginia Joel Absher of Raven, Virginia Charles Wayne Absher and wife, Aleta of Versailees, Kentucky Coy Absher and wife, Effie of Raven, Virginia Larry Absher and wife, Carol of Raven Nest Branch, Virginia Daughter-in-Law: Linda Absher of Greensboro, North Carolina Former Daughter-in-Law: Mary Lou Absher of Raven, Virginia 2 Sisters: Mrs. Rosa Messick of Pounding Mill, Virginia Mrs. Nell Buckles of Northern Virginia Special Friend and Caregiver: Jeanette Vandyke 15 Grandchildren, 6 Step-Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren and 10 Step Great-Grandchildren also survive. Special Caregivers: Evelyn Grimsley, Michelle Johnson and Stephanie Mullins and Golden Age Retirement Home Staff. Funeral Services for Mr. James T. Absher will be conducted Friday, June 3, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst- Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. David Horton and Rev. Eddie Hess officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Ryan Johnson, Shaw Absher, Kevin Sparks, Nathaniel Smith, Kenny Absher and Travis Absher. Honorary Pallbearers will be: T.R. Barrett, Arnold Short, Louis and Margaret Hunter, Louis Short and Dr. Larry Mitchell. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
