Jeanne Rachel Sergent

Jeanne Rachel Sergent never gave up, she battled idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis with the strength of a warrior. She was 74 years of age when she drew a long full breath in heaven. After high school, she attended St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, where she received a degree in Drafting Engineering. She then attended the Massey College of Business in Atlanta, Georgia, and earned her degree in interior design. While she decided the path for her future, she became a stewardess for Northwest Orient Airlines. The airlines provided her with an opportunity to see the world and meet a variety of people, one of those being her future husband, Gary E. Sergent. One of the proudest moments of her life is when her design for the renovation of the Amherst Historical Society Museum was accepted and built. Jeanne was a loving, kind person who enjoyed coaching soccer when her children were younger, being a member of the ladies quilting society, and supporting multiple charities. Her greatest joy in life came from being with her family, and watching the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Jeanne was born February 10, 1949, in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was the daughter of the late, Russell F. Richardson and Dorothy Phillips Richardson. Jeanne and her husband attended Gethsemane Baptist in Richlands for many years. Those that remain to carry on her loving spirit include her loving husband of 50 years, Gary E. Sergent of Cedar Bluff, VA Her Children: Gary Lee Sergent and wife, Emily Anne (Asbury) of Greensboro, NC Kimberly Sergent and husband, Sean Heuser of Cary, NC Lindsey Sergent of Cedar Bluff, VA Her brother, Greg Richardson and his partner, Carol Haskins of Tampa, FL Grandchildren: Kathlynn Sergent-Keene and husband, Oliver Keene of Rich Creek, VA Keterra Sergent of Tazewell, VA Corran Sergent of Greensboro, NC Great-granddaughter, Evelynn Dianna Keene A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia.
