Jerline Salyers

Mrs. Jerline Salyers, age 62, of Richlands, Virginia courageously battled cancer for a year and a half. She appeared before the gates of Heaven on Saturday June 10, 2006 and applied for the position of an Angel. Her resume read that she had 62 years of experience. She was born in Buchanan County, Virginia, the daughter of Bernice Shortt Keen and the late Stuart Shortt. She had dedicated her life to her family and to always helping others. She had taught Sunday School for more than thirty years at Calvary Temple Church. She was also a member of the Women on a Mission group at her church. Her quiet times were spent doing crafts, crocheting, and making quilts or working in her flower garden. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will truly be missed by her family and friends. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Irvan Shortt. Survivors, in addition to her mother, are Her husband, Charles F. Salyers, Sr. Daughter: Donna Horn and husband Ronnie of Rosedale, Virginia Sons: Chuck Salyers and wife, Janie of Paintlick, Virginia Tracy Salyers and wife, Trish of Roanoke, Virginia Sisters: Janet Boyd and husband, Jimmie of Swords Creek, Virginia Judy Vannoy and husband, Mike of Richlands, Virginia Brothers: Jack Shortt and wife, Brenda of Swords Creek, Virginia John Shortt and wife, Gaynell of Thompson Valley, Virginia Jerry Shortt and wife, Sue of Saltville, Virginia Grandsons: Brandon Salyers, Jeremy Horn and Rick Burks Granddaughters: Savannah Horn and Caitlin Horn One Step Great-Granddaughter, Alyssa Burks Special caretakers, Dr. M. Stefanini and 4th and 5th Floor Nurses at Clinch Valley Medical Center Very Special friend, Debbie Horne and Special friends of the Church also survive Funeral services for Mrs. Jerline Salyers will be conducted at 7:00pm Monday, June 12, 2006 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Grady McGlothlin officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 12:00pm in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Debbie Horne, Cookie Wheeler, Tammy Moore, Joyce Meadows, Kathy Keen, Anna Sparks, and Teresa Rose. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jerry Shortt, Jack Shortt, John Shortt, Clyde Moore, Randy Keen, Mike Vannoy, Danny Houchins, and Jimmie Boyd.
