Jerry Kenneth Addison

Jerry Kenneth Addison, age 71, of Pounding Mill, Virginia passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center, in Johnson City, TN. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late Benjamin "Ken" Addison and Catherine Puckett Addison both of Richlands. Jerry served his country in the Army during the Korean War (1960 - 1963) and was stationed in Europe. Jerry worked in the mining industry most of his life. He last worked as a Mine Foreman for the Pittston Coal Corporation (Jewel Ridge Number 11). He was a member of the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church in Cedar Bluff, VA, the local VFW chapter, and the Loyal Order of Moose. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed. Jerry was also a compassionate, caring person who truly had never met a stranger. He loved people and his kind, charitable nature allowed him to make new friends and acquaintances everywhere he went. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Allen Addison, and one sister, Sue Compton. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Brown Addison; two sons (from a previous marriage), Kenneth Dewayne Addison and wife Jennifer Addison, Roy Lee Addison; one daughter, Jerri-Kaye Addison Mabe and husband Brian Mabe; two brothers, Tommy Addison and wife Lara Addison, Larry Addison; one sister, Melissa Addison; seven grandchildren, Ginger Addison, Jessica Addison, Laci Nicole Addison, McKinley Jace Addison, Zachary Addison, Brandy Addison, Regan Smith, and Brittney Mabe; and five great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Jerry's Life will be conducted on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church, in Cedar Bluff, VA with Pastor Annette Warren and Pastor Jackie Strickler officiating. After the service, the celebration will continue in the fellowship hall. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joseph Allen Addison Scholarship Fund, Southwest Virginia Community College, P. O.
