Jerry Douglas Warner

“A man that has friends must show himself friendly. And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”- Proverbs 18:24. Jerry Warner was that friend. Jerry Warner left his earthly home for his eternal home in Heaven on Sunday, July 28, 2024. I know there was a grand reunion when he entered the Pearly Gates of Heaven, especially with our son Jerry J. Jerry was a wonderful husband and dad. He loved being with his family. He loved his grandkids and his great-grandson, DiMaggio. He was looking so forward to meeting his new great-grandson, Waylon Hyder in December. Jerry loved our church, Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church, and he loved our church family. He loved our Friday nights going out to eat with our church family. He was a member of the Men’s Bible Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Seniors and the Men’s Fellowship. He was a volunteer for our Bible School every year. He loved his church. Jerry was a football coach for Cedar Bluff Blue Devils alongside Glen Hagy for many years. He coached Senior League Boys Baseball and Senior League Girls Softball in Richlands, Virginia. He and Ruby Slate won the 1994 Virginia Girls Softball State Championship. He worked doing the football field for Richlands for more than 25 years. He loved volunteering his time for the youth of Richlands. Jerry was born in Russell County, Virginia to the late Clifford Harvey Warner and Viola Casey Warner. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jerry J. Warner; grandparents, John and Lumie Warner; Ezra and Bertha Casey; brothers; Mack Casey, Lester “Cotton” Warner, Lawrence “Nick” Warner and wife, Jean. His survivors are: His Wife of 59 years, Patricia Warner Daughter: Tammy Hyder of Elizabethton, TN Grandchildren: Aeriel Warner; and Luke Hyder and wife, Haley Great-Grandchildren: DiMaggio Warner and Great-Grandbaby to be, Waylon Hyder Brother: Roger Warner of Warner Robbins, GA Sister: Sandra “Susie” Banker of Aylett, VA Sister-In-Law: Betty Warner Brother-In-Law: Michael Harrison Sisters-In-Law: Diane Hill and Sandra Sykes Several nieces and nephews alongside his best friend, Ken Arney also survive. Special Friends include: Tom Reine, Charles Hyder, Tom Pleasant, Wade Casey, Ted Simerly, Dennis Teague, and Harvey Norris. Funeral services for Jerry Douglas Warner will be conducted on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 1 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Pastors Randy Johnson and Mark Potter officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Luke Hyder, Robbie Cruey, Tom Reine, Tom Pleasant, Scott Jennings, and David Nidiffer. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ken Arney, Wade Casey, Charles Hyder, Harvey Norris, and John Papantoniou. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 11 AM until the time of service at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
