Jerry Douglas “Jerry Jay” Warner, Jr., age 54, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Richlands, VA, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at his home following a brief illness. Jerry was born May 29, 1967, in Richlands, VA, and was the son of Jerry Douglas Warner Sr. and Patricia Harrison Reedy Warner. Jerry was a Richlands High School class of 1985 graduate, he excelled as a baseball, basketball, and football player. During his senior year, he was selected for the Pappy Thompson award, and won MVP in the Coppinger tournament, Jerry also broke the 1985 VA state record for strikeouts, 20 out of 21. He was a 1987 graduate of Hiwassee college, where he attended on a baseball scholarship. He also attended Bluefield State College for two years on a baseball scholarship. Jerry worked in logistics at BNSF Logistics in Charlotte, NC. Jerry always said that his greatest accomplishment was his daughter, Aeriel, whom he loved more than anything, alongside his new grandson, DiMaggio If Jerry was your friend, you had a friend for life. He never met a stranger, and he was very kindhearted. He would give you the last penny he had; he also had a heart for those less fortunate. He loved Big! He loved being a dad, grandad, son, uncle, and friend. Jerry is preceded in death by his grandparents; Clifford Harvey Warner, and Viola Casey Warner; Harold Gene Harrison, and Leora Harrison; Henry Wysor, and Lorraine Wysor: Clarence Reedy, and Bessie Reedy; and Bertha Casey, and Lumie Warner. In addition to his parents, he is survived by: His Loving Daughter, Aeriel Jade Warner, of Greensboro, NC His Grandson, DiMaggio Shai Warner of Greensboro, NC His Sister, Tammy Hyder of Elizabethton, TN Nephew, Luke Hyder and his fiancé, Haley Bender Aeriel’s Mother, Julia Smith Branch Special friends: Shawn Durham, Sandy Rogers, and John Sploric A funeral service for Jerry Douglas “Jerry Jay” Warner Jr. will be conducted Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 7:30 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands VA, with Minister Bob Smith, officiating. The Warner family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 pm on Saturday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
