Jimmie Jackson Sr.

“…Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of the Lord.” (Matthew 25:21) Jimmie Jackson, Sr., age 89, of Raven, VA, left this world and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 in Monroe, GA. Jimmie was born on August 25, 1936, in Buchanan County and was the son of the late Luther Jackson, Lena Cooper Jackson, and Audrey Vandyke Jackson. Jimmie dedicated his life to caring for his family. At the age of 16, Jimmie owned and operated his own coal mining business with his brother, Harold. Jimmie worked in the truck mining industry with Jewell Ridge Coal Company, owning and operating several mining operations. He continued working in the mining industry until 1991. Jimmie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He gave his heart to The Lord as a young man and was a faithful church member all of his life. He attended Gloryland Tabernacle and loved serving The Lord and praying for his family and friends. Jimmie and his wife supported church ministry through the years, giving of their time and resources unselfishly. They were instrumental in encouraging many young people in their walk with The Lord. He was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Edith Young Jackson and Frances Keene Jackson; sons, Jimmy “Sonny” Jackson, Jr. and Billy Dale Keene; sister, Edna Jackson Wender; and brothers, Harold (Mary Jane) Jackson and Jake (Betty) Jackson. Jimmie is survived by: Daughters: Rebecca Jackson Doggett and husband, Jon of Oxford, GA Connie Keene Cordle and husband, Randy of Cedar Bluff, VA Son, Darryl Keene and wife, Brenda of Cedar Bluff, VA Sister, Betty and the late Charlie Smith of Jewell Ridge, VA Grandchildren: Brandon Keene and wife Leslie, Brent Doggett and wife, Telina, Lauren Bishop and husband, Robert, Jared Keene and wife, Kari, Jeremy Keene and wife, Taylor, Rachel Carithers and husband, Jared, Christopher Doggett and wife, Lacey, Nicole Bloomfield and husband, Jon, and Nichelle Clark and husband, Tyler. Great-Grandchildren: Amelia Keene, Allison Keene, Ollie Kate Doggett, Drew Doggett, Lex Bishop, Leo Bishop, Liam Bishop, Kayden Keene, Ezra Keene, Emmitt Keene, Jed Carithers, Jase Carithers, Waylon Doggett, Wesley Bloomfield, and Wyatt Bloomfield. Several Nieces, Nephews, and a host of family and friends also survive. Funeral services for Jimmie Jackson, Sr., will be conducted Saturday, January 31, at 11:00 AM at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA, with Rev. Don Smith, Rev. Roger Boyd, and Rev. Jim Richardson officiating. Interment will be at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Grandsons; Brandon Keene, Brent Doggett, Robert Bishop, Jared Keene, Jeremy Keene, Jared Carithers, Christopher Doggett, Jon Bloomfield, and Tyler Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men of Gloryland Tabernacle and special friends, Paul Wilson and Don Shortt. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home.
