Joan Osborne

Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Boyd Osborne, age 77, of the Horton Ridge section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Swords Creek, Virginia and was the daughter of the late E.P. and Madeline Elkins Boyd. She was a life long resident of the area and was a former employee of the Mattie Williams Hospital and Eastern Isles. She was a lifetime member of the Horton Ridge Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene “Bill” Osborne; two brothers, Eddie and Benny Boyd. Survivors are: One Daughter: Donna Hill and husband, George, Jr. of Horton Ridge Two Sons: William E. Osborne and wife, Sandy of Horton Ridge Edward Osborne and wife, Carolyn of Belfast, Virginia Four Sisters: Esther Shrader of Richlands, Virginia Caroline Newberry and husband, Ruey of Raven, Virginia Phoebe Newberry of Swords Creek, Virginia Ruth White of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Two Sisters in Law: Bernice Mash of Baptist Valley Linda Boyd of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Six Grandchildren: Rebecca Holmes and husband, Kevin; Amy Horton and husband, Joe; Charles Osborne; Joseph Osborne; Amber Osborne; and Jessica Osborne Six Great Grandchildren: Quentin Holmes, Keaton Holmes, Cora Holmes, Haley Horton, Hunter Horton, and Rachel Horton Several nieces and nephews and special friends also survive. Funeral services for Joan Elizabeth Boyd Osborne will be conducted Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Dennis White and Rev. Tony Shrader officiating. Interment will follow at the Elkins Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge near Swords Creek, Virginia. Pallbearers: Ben Musick, Jim Newberry, Chris Harris, Joe Horton, Kevin Holmes, George Hill, Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Roger Newberry, Randall Cole, Darrell Short, Zack Musick and Chester Whited.
