Joan Wysor

Norma Joan Wysor, age 89, of Richlands, Virginia, passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home Friday, April 26, 2024 at her home. Joan was born on May 28, 1934, in Jewell Ridge, VA and was the daughter of the late Claude Reedy and Lula White Reedy Mercer. She was a lifelong resident of Richlands, VA. Joan was a member of Richlands Presbyterian Church, and she loved her church family. She had served as an elder for her church, taught Sunday School, helped with Bible School, and held many offices in the women’s work of the church. In the past she received an Honorary Life Membership Award of Presbyterian Women, Operation Christmas Child, and she enjoyed fellow friends in the XYZ Club. Joan volunteered for more than twenty years at the Tri-County Health Clinic, Good Samaritan Food Pantry, Crab Orchard Museum. CART, Habitat for Humanity, and as a tutor for students in several of our area schools. Joan was a retired employee of Southwest Virginia Community College. She was happiest when she was working in her church, helping others, cooking, working in her flowers, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan was well-known for baking homemade rolls and meals for others. Her biggest joy came from doing for others, as she was a great servant of God. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Earl Kenneth (Ken) Wysor; her best friend, her sister Ruby (Curtis) Mabe; brothers, Raymond Reedy and his wife, Ruby; James (Heavy) Reedy; stepfather Paul Mercer, whom she loved dearly. Survivors are daughter, Sandy (Randy) Tatum and their children, Chad (Jennifer) Tatum and their sons, Jack and Grant Tatum; Ben Tatum (Stephanie); and Clarissa Tatum; daughter, Clara Dye (William Simmons), Clara’s son Nathan Wysor Dye (Becca). She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen Reedy; and her father’s wife, Glenna and their children Pam Worrell and Keith Reedy (Pam). Funeral services for Joan Wysor will be conducted Monday, April 29, 2024 at 1pm at the Richlands Presbyterian Church in Richlands, Virginia with Dr. Marc Brooks officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends my visit with the family from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Monday at the church prior to the funeral. A special thank you for the many cards, telephone calls, texts, and prayers received from Joan’s church family and friends.
