John "Bud" Troy Whitt, Jr.

John Troy “Bud” Whitt, Jr., age 60, of Richlands, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 11, 2024. He was surrounded by loved ones. John was born on October 20, 1963 in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late John Troy Whitt, Sr. and Nancy Jane Hunnell Whitt. He was of the Christian faith. John was employed by the Town of Richlands for 34 years. He retired from the Richlands Water Treatment Plan in 2019 as Chief Operator. He had a passion for serving others and providing safe drinking water for his community. He loved learning and sharing his knowledge with others. He was a kind, generous, funny, loving man. He will be missed by many. He was proceeded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory: His wife of over 30 years, love of his life and best friend, Susan of Richlands, VA His daughter, Maddie White and husband, Shawn of Richlands, VA His sisters: Donna Beavers of Richlands, VA Melinda Childress and husband, Clinton of Raven, VA His brothers: Roy Whitt of Richlands, VA Robbie Whitt and wife, Marianne of Cedar Bluff, VA Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. A heartfelt thank you to all of the staff with Legacy Hospice for providing outstanding care of John. Thank you to all the staff of Clinch Valley Oncology. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” Funeral services for John “Bud” Whitt, Jr. will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Minister Joy Shelton officiating . Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 11:00 am. Those wishing to go to the cemetery are asked to line up at the funeral home at 10:30 am. Pallbearers will be Rob Whitt, Shawn White, Bo Whitt, Brad Beavers, Jason Beavers, and Eric Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry McAllister, Clinton Childress, Rex Hunnell, Steve White, and Jack Vance. The Whitt family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
