John Crabtree,

John Henry Crabtree, Jr. age 64, of Claypool Hill, Virginia passed away Monday, August 16, 2004 in a North Carolina Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late John Henry Crabtree, Sr., and Dorothy Edith Lowe Crabtree. He was of the Pentecostal Faith, and was a lifetime resident of the Richlands area. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving time in France in the early 1960's. He was a loving husband, father and a proud new grandfather. He was a welding supervisor for Virginia Metal Products for more than 40 years. John's walk in life left memorable footprints upon the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. The family wishes to express appreciation to the 2nd floor employees of the Clinch Valley Medical Center for their care and support. Survivors are: His loving wife, Mrs. Betsy Carol Crabtree Daughter, Mrs. Randy (Lisa) Mitchell of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Son, Mr. Brian Keith Crabtree of Reston, Virginia Four Sisters: Mrs. Jim (Ann) Short of Richlands, Virginia Ms. Alease Justice of Whitewood, Virginia Mrs. Jackie (Patsy) Shelton of Richlands, Virginia Ms. Debbie Lambert of Richlands, Virginia One Brother, Mr. Roger Lee Crabtree of Cave City, Kentucky One grandchild, Lucy Carol Mitchell He also leaves behind two faithful friends, Dottie and Christy Funeral services for Mr. John Henry Crabtree, Jr. will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Richlands Tabernacle in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Ralph Horton and Rev. Bob Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Nephews and Son-In-Law will serve as pallbearers. Employees of Virginia Metal Products will serve as honorary pallbearers. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 of Richlands, Virginia and Disabled American Veterans Tazewell Co. Chapter #31 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday and at the church Thursday one hour prior to the service.
