Pastor Johnnie Smith

Pastor Johnnie Smith, age 82, heard God’s call on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, and traveled to his heavenly home, where he had a wonderful reunion with those he loved. Johnnie was born on March 24, 1943, in the Smith Ridge area of Jewell Ridge, the son of the late Edward Smith and Edgar Short Smith. He was a Pastor for over 54 years and pastored at the Clearview Tabernacle. Johnnie was a dedicated supporter of his community and served as the Mayor and a council member for the town of Cedar Bluff. Johnnie was an entrepreneur; he enjoyed working with the public and had never met a stranger. He founded and owned Silver Spur Supply and many other businesses. His greatest joy was his family and grandkids, with whom he loved spending time. In addition to his parents, he was reunited with his sister, Francis Jackson, and brothers, Lester Smith and Curtis Smith. Those who remain to carry on his spirit are his: Loving wife, Shelby Jean Keen Smith of Middlecreek, VA Sons: Gregory Wayne Smith and his wife, Tammy, of Cedar Bluff, VA Johnny Ray Smith of Swordscreek, VA Sister, Ada Slate Horn of Glade Springs, VA Brother, Don Smith and his wife, Reba, of Wardell, VA Brother-in-law, Jimmy Jackson Sister-in-law, Margie Smith Grandchildren: Jordan Smith and his wife, Carrie; Jared Smith and his wife, Edie Beth; Dillon Smith and his wife, Emily; and Ali Shortt and her husband, Ryan. Great-grandchildren: Ethan Smith, Morgan Smith, Mylo Smith, Lettie Smith, Camden Shortt, Asher Shortt, Della Shortt, Westlyn Smith, and Brooks Smith. The funeral service for Pastor Johnnie Smith will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Gloryland Tabernacle on Shortts Gap. Rev. Don Smith and Tim Lester will officiate. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Ryan Shortt, Dillon Smith, Ethan Smith, Jordan Smith, Jared Smith, Camden Shortt, Asher Shortt, and Kenny Shepherd will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
