Johnny Compton

Mr. Johnny Franklin “Tashe” Compton, age 66, of Shortts Gap, Virginia, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Buchanan County and was the son of Vicie Church Compton of Compton Mtn., Virginia and the late Elmer T. Compton. He had made his home in the Buchanan County area all of his life and was a disabled coal miner and horse trainer. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and son and will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Archie T. “Roscoe” Compton; one infant brother; and one special brother in law, Roger Lee Keene. Survivors are: His Wife, Penny Keene Compton One Daughter: Vickie Compton Clevinger and husband, Danny of Shortts Gap, Virginia Mother in Law: Myrtle Varney of Shortts Gap, Virginia One Sister: Ann Lester and husband, Floyd of Claypool Hill, Virginia Four Brothers: Clyde Compton of Compton Mtn., Virginia Elmer Compton, Jr. and wife, Janice of Raven, Virginia Thurman Compton and wife, Linda of Pilgrim Knob, Virginia Wayne Compton and wife, Paula of Compton Mtn., Virginia Sisters in Law: Martha Lou Allen and husband, Sam of Bridgeton, New Jersey Gaynell Adkins and husband Kendall of Pound, Virginia Juanita Wimmer of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Grendia Keene of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Brothers in Law: Harold Keene and wife, Betty of Florahome, Florida Buddy Keene and wife, Janice of Pea Patch, Virginia Grandchildren: Misty Justice and Danielle Three Great Grandchidlren: Natasha Justice, Zackary Justice, Kyla Justice Thirty Two Nieces and Nephews and a large host of family and friends also survive Funeral services for Johnny Franklin Compton will be conducted Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 11:00am at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Dennis Wimmer and Preacher Hobart Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at the Compton Family Cemetery on Compton Mtn. near Whitewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Ben Compton, Buskil Keene, Angelia White, Daniel Ray, Anthony “Bear” Compton, Jamie Gross, Ricky “Doc” Cooper, Bo Lester, D.J. Skeens, and Brandon Blankenship. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. James McVey, Dr. Jacob Haught, Donna Davis, Kirby Cole, Jim Stilwell, Pat Reedy, Obie Parrish, Willard Conn, Frank Maynard, and Roger Counts.
