Johnny Curtis Short

Johnny Curtis Short, age 60 of Richlands, Virginia passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in a Bristol Tennessee hospital following a brief illness. He was born at home on Horn Mountain in Buchanan County to the late John Alden and Lovis Reavy Horn Short. He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He loved bluegrass music and flat footing. Johnny was a good hearted man who would always go out of his way to help others. He was a jolly old soul, and always had a smile. He was a lifetime resident of the Buchanan and Tazewell County areas. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mona Pearl Osborne; brother, Roger Lee Short and brother-in-law, Roger Osborne. Survivors include: His wife, Amanda Kay Short of Richlands, Virginia His daughters: Melissa Thacker of Contrary, VA Melinda Blackburn and husband Christopher of Vansant, VA Son, Chris Short of Doran, VA Sisters: Ellen Horn and husband Grady of Raven, VA Ruby Osborne of Oakwood, VA Marie Smith and husband Melvin Stanley Smith of Richlands, VA Brothers: Dannie Short and wife Ina Mae of Claypool Hill, VA Lewis Short and wife Carol of Russell County, VA James Junior Short and wife Faye of Doran, VA Paul Short and wife Brenda of Doran, VA Eight Grandchildren, one great grandchildren with one on the way, several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends also survive him. Funeral services for Johnny Short will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Joe Horn officiating. Interment will follow at the Horn Family Cemetery located on Horn Mountain in Buchanan County, Virginia. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made on the funeral expenses. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 am till time of the service at 1:00 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second Street; Richlands, Virginia.
