Karen Lowe Keen

Karen Rebecca Lowe Keen, age 44 of Abbs Valley, VA passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at a Big Stone Gap, VA hospital following a lengthy battle with ALS. She was born May 20, 1967 at Richlands, VA and was a daughter of Robert and Ann Brown Lowe. Karen was a 1985 graduate of Graham High School and had attended Southwest Virginia Community College. She was a member of the Alexander United Methodist Church in Bishop, VA, where she faithfully attended until her health began to fail. Karen enjoyed making homemade suckers, and candy; working crafts at VBS and had a heart for helping others. Karen was a wonderful example of a Christian lady and was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother grandmother and friend; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her father and mother, those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Harley Keen; one son, Delbert Michael “Mikey” Robert Smith and wife, Jill of Cedar Bluff, VA; one daughter, Lisa Ann Keen of Bluefield, VA; one step-son, Clyde Keen of Roanoke, VA; one sister, Jennifer Stout and husband, George of North Tazewell, VA; one brother, Michael Lowe and wife, Nancy of Crocket, VA; three nieces, Jessica Stout of North Tazewell, VA, Courtney and Nikki Lowe of Crocket, VA; one nephew, Hunter Stout of North Tazewell, VA; four step-grandchildren, Donovan and Jessica Keen of Roanoke, VA and Brittany and Zack Wood of Cedar Bluff, VA; special cousin, Becky Kitts and husband, Mark and their daughter, Adrianna of Bluefield, VA; many other family members and loving friends also survive. Funeral services for Karen Rebecca Lowe Keen will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Hurst-Scott funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Pastor Chris White and the Rev. Lawrence Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA. Pallbearers will be Michael Lowe, Danny Thompson, George Stout, Bobby Puckett, Mark Kitts, and Joseph Blackwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Cruey, Michael Meadows, Curtis Thompson and Lawrence Cantrell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
