Kathryn Bowman

Mrs. Kathryn Thompson Bowman of Cedar Bluff, Virginia passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 in a Tazewell, Virginia hospital. She was born in Tazewell, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Mary Dorinda Thompson. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Tazewell High School, Bluefield College, and the University of Virginia. She worked for Pocahontas Fuel Company for 7 years in the Nurse Division at Bishop, Virginia. She taught at Richlands High School the first two years it was open. She was a member of the Richlands Presbyterian Church and was a charter member of the Cedar Bluff Garden Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Bowman; one sister, Narcissa Thompson Graves; and two brothers, William Walter Thompson and Henry Hayter Thompson. Survivors are: One Son: Earl T. “Tommy” Bowman and wife, Sharee of Pounding Mill, Virginia Three Grandsons: Keenan Bowman and wife, Christin; Eric Bowman, and Nicholas Bowman One Great Granddaughter: Sophia Brooke One Nephew: W.W. Thompson, Jr of Swords Creek, Virginia Three Nieces: Martha Thompson Widener and husband, Robert of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Mary Margaret Thompson of Pounding Mill, Virginia Betsy Adkins and husband, Ron of Glade Spring, Virginia Three Sisters in Law: June Maxwell Thompson of Tazewell, Virginia Marie Hagerman of Winston Salem, North Carolina Phyllis Grubb of Durham, North Carolina Brother in Law: Clarence Bowman of Princeton, West Virginia Memorial services for Kathryn Thompson Bowman will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 7:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating. Inurnment will be at Maplewood Cemetery at Tazewell, Virginia. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
