Kenneth "Kenny" Basil Hogston, Sr.

Kenneth “Kenny” Basil Hogston, Sr. died peacefully in his Cedar Bluff, Virginia, home after a lengthy illness on May 10, 2016 at the age of 87. Kenny was born to Trula Baldwin and Clay Hogston on February 8, 1929 in Tazewell County, Virginia. He was a disabled veteran who proudly served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he was both a Prisoner of War and a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. Kenny was a dedicated, 30 year employee of Permac, Inc. retiring in 1986 and a cherished member of the Cedar Bluff Community Church in Cedar Bluff, Virginia. In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by his aunt Audra Baldwin Jackson, who provided a loving home and family after the death of Kenny’s mother; stepdaughter, Teresa Hampton Robinson; brothers: Ishmel Hogston, Lonnie Vandyke, Eulis Vandyke, Ronnie Hogston, Emory Hogston, Arlie Hogston, Willie Hogston, Elwood Hogston and sisters, Elzena H. Wilson and Phyllis O’Quinn. Kenny is survived by: His Wife of 32 years, Carol Joyce Hogston Son, Kenneth B. Hogston, Jr. and wife Sandy of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Daughters: Debra Hall and husband Johnny of Greenville, Tennessee Joann Jackson of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Step-son, Keith Hampton and wife Laura of Johnson City, Tennessee Step-son-in-law, D’Wayne Robinson of Canfield, Ohio Siblings: Joe Hogston of Bandy, Virginia; Jimmy Jackson of Richlands, Virginia; Harold Jackson of Pounding Mill, Virginia; Jake Jackson of Pounding Mill, Virginia; and Betty Smith of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Grandchildren: Scott Roberts and wife Lori; Ryan Jackson; Whitney Mash and husband Joe; Sydney Hogston; Jared Robinson; Davis Hampton; and “granddaughter of the heart,” Paxton Casey Great grandchildren: Lakota Roberts, Tristan Jackson and Harrison Mash and great, great granddaughter, Kylie Roberts. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews along with a host of family and friends Funeral services for Kenneth Hogston, Sr. will be conducted Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. The following pallbearers are gratefully acknowledged: David Sturgill, Johnny Lester, Bennie Stiltner, Larry McGinness, Jerry Heron and Shannon Smith. Honorary pallbearers are: Bill Ray Joyce, Robert “Bob” Haynes and Cedar Bluff Community Church members.
