Kevin Phipps

Kevin Lee Phipps, age 41 of North Tazewell, VA died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital. He was born December 14, 1970 at Richlands, VA and was the son of Glen Phipps and wife, Jennifer of Jewel Ridge, VA and the late Nellie Arnold Phipps. Kevin was a 1988 graduate of Richlands High School and had attended Southwest Virginia Community College. He was a truck driver with a passion for music, hunting and fishing. He loved watching football, cheering for his favorite Washington Redskins and enjoyed NASCAR, pulling for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Kevin was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Linkous Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Dry Fork, VA. Kevin had a big heart and a great love for others; so great that he was an organ donor so others may benefit from his untimely passing. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his father and step-mother, survivors include his wife, Kathy Phipps; “special daughter”, Kimberly Arvin of Lexington, KY; three sisters, Glenna Phipps and Sharon McGlothlin and companion, Donnie, all of Richlands, VA and Sheila Cyphers and husband, Jon of Doran, VA; two brothers, J.P. Phipps and companion, Marlene of Claypool hill, VA and Richard Phipps and wife, Leda of Jewel Ridge, VA; special mother – in – law, Pansy Sparks of North Tazewell, VA; two nieces; seven nephews; four great-nieces; four great-nephews; a host of other family and many loving friends. Funeral services for Kevin Lee Phipps will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Reverend Jonah Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at the Phipps Family Cemetery at Bear Wallow, VA. Pallbearers will be Justin Hess, and Jon Cyphers and nephews: Phillip McGlothlin, Joshua, Eric, Jonathan, Jamie, Daniel Phipps and Winfred McGlothlin, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Kayla Allison, Christopher Phipps, Maggie and Abigail, and other nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2012. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in support of Kevin’s family to Hurst – Scott Funeral Home, 630 West Main Street, Tazewell, VA 24651.
