Larry Joe Keen

Larry Joe Keen age 69 of Cedar Bluff, VA passed away on April 13, 2023, after a brief illness at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY surrounded by his family. Larry was born in Richlands, VA on September 10, 1953, and was the son of the late Adell Keen and Elmer Vandyke. Larry was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff and Whitewood areas and was a retired mechanic at Claude V. Keen Trucking Company. Larry was a member of Pure in Heart Ministries and served as a deacon. Larry had a servant’s heart; he loved to help others and never met a stranger. Larry was a friend to all and was a “hero” always jumping in to save the day. Larry enjoyed traveling, cooking, hunting, selling corn at the Cedar Bluff and Burkes Garden Fall Festivals, but most of all he loved riding “shotgun” with his grandson Austin Keen. Larry will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. In addition to his mother, he was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Adam and Carrie Keen; Sisters: Spicy Lester, Elsie Stilwell, Vivian Osborne, and Anita Simpson; and brothers: Worley Keen, Gary Vandyke, Randall Vandyke and infant twin brothers-Herman and Sherman Keen. Survivors are: His loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Keen Son: Dwayne Keen and wife, Melissa of Cedar Bluff, VA Daughter: Christy Keen of Cedar Bluff, VA Grandson: Austin Keen; Granddaughters, Carrie Ennis and Madison Keen Sisters: Icy Whitt of Cedar Bluff, VA, Helen Elswick of Lebanon, VA, and Joyce Osborne of Raven, VA Stepsister: Dora Rife Special adopted sisters: Connie Daniels and Carol Daniels Brothers: James Keen and wife, Nancy of Meadowview, VA; Calvin Keen and wife, Connie of Oakwood, VA; Gary Lee Keen and wife, Linda of Pilgrims Knob, VA; Ray Vandyke and wife, Shelby of Cedar Bluff, VA; Robbie Dale Vandyke and wife, Tina of Richlands, VA; and Ronnie Vandyke of Cedar Bluff, VA Several friends, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at Clinch Valley Medical Center and Pikeville Medical Center and special nurse Tammy Sellers for the exceptional care and comfort they provided during the last several days. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Hurst Scott Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Bowman and Pastor J.R. Elswick officiating. Interment will follow at the Keen Family Cemetery at Compton Mountain, VA. Pallbearers will be: River Michaels, Zach Hays, Brute O’Quinn, Otis Lester, Ray Vandyke, and Paris Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be: John Reynolds, Ricky Reynolds, Ronnie Reynolds, Pat Shrader, Gilbert Daniels, Terry Keen, Billy Clifton, and Larry Dowdy.
