Larry Harrison Peery

Larry Harrison Peery, age 77 of Baptist Valley, VA died Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Dogwood Crossing Senior Living and Memory Care in Tazewell, VA. He was born April 2, 1942 at Baptist Valley, VA and was a son of the late John and Madeline Harrison Peery. Larry was 1961 Graduate of Tazewell High School and was a retired Coal Miner, having worked for many years for Pittston Coal – Seaboard #1 at Jewell Ridge, VA. Mr. Peery was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War and was stationed aboard the USS Vogelgesang. He was a member of the UMWA and was a Master Mason belonging to Cedar Bluff Lodge #260 in Richlands, VA. Larry enjoyed woodworking and was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was very proud to have worked as a Milkman with Foremost and Farm Best Dairy. Mr. Peery was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Baptist Valley, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Rae Dean Peery; one sister, Peggy Whitt; one brother, John D. Peery. Those who survive to cherish his memory include his son, Larry Ray Peery and wife, Lisa of North Tazewell, VA; his daughter, Amannda Peery-Horton of Bluefield, VA; one brother, James Peery of Cedar Bluff, VA; four grandchildren, Danielle McNabb and husband, Jordan, Amber Nicole Peery and fiancé, Tommy Miller of Christiansburg, VA, Benjamin Tanner Matney and Karly Rae Crocket both of Bluefield, VA; six great-grandchildren, Camilla, Alessa, Briar, Brayden, Colton and Grayson; a host of other family members and friends also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Peery will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Rev. Mark Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at the Peery-Yost Cemetery in Cedar Bluff, VA. Pallbearers will be Mitch Edwards, Tony Parsons, Kevin Hurd, Benjamin Matney, Jim Campbell and Joe McGraw. Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Rasnake, Pierce Davidson, Hughie Long and John Thompson. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by members of Barns-Beavers VWF Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA. There will be no public visitation prior to the funeral service on Friday, September 6, 2019.
