Lawrence "Karbide" Allen Rife

Lawrence “Karbide” Allen Rife, age 66, of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Richlands, VA, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Lawrence was born on September 27, 1957 in Richlands, VA, and was the son of the late Lawrence Rife and Gladys Lyons Rife. He was a graduate of the Richlands High School Class of 1975. He was a former truck driver, but was most recently employed by Green Mountain Coffee. He was an avid Nascar and Tennessee Volunteers fan. Lawrence never met a stranger, and always wanted to make you laugh. He had a large collection of refrigerator magnets, and always picked up a new one when visiting new places. In addition to collecting things he enjoyed cooking, yardwork, and building things as well. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Leslie Rife. He is survived by: Daughter, Kayla Owens and husband, Josh of Richlands, VA Granddaughter, Brynleigh Owens of Richlands, VA Sister, Bonnie Hackney and husband, Ronald of Rutlidge, TN Brother, Phillip Rife and wife, Patricia of Elkhorn City, KY Sister-in-Law, Nancy Rife of Greenville, TN A host of nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to thank the ICU team at Parkwest Memorial Hospital, and they would also like to extend a special thank you to his nurse, Will. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hurst-Scott Funeral Home for funeral expenses. 2nd Corinthians 4:17-18: “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” A memorial service for Lawrence “Karbide” Allen Rife will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands Virginia, with Rev. Shane Breeding officiating. The Rife family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.
