LCpl Raymond Edison Johnson

LCpl. Raymond Edison Johnson, age 77, of Walnut Cove, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019 in North Carolina. Raymond was born on February 21, 1942 in Jewell Valley, Virginia and was the son of the late Charlie and Hazel Johnson. Raymond served in the United Stated Marine Corp and was a die-hard marine. He always had a great sense of humor and had a song for everything. Raymond loved music. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. Raymond and his son, Richard, were the former leaders of the band “The Falcons” for over 40 years. He enjoyed sitting on his porch and spending time in his garage. Raymond and Richard loved spending time together while restoring old cars. Above all things, he loved his family. They will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Raymond Edison Johnson, Jr. and Charles Ted Johnson; brother, Jim Johnson; father-in-law, Ted Sweet; mother-in-law, Pauline Sweet; sisters-in-law, Irene, Joyce and Marcella; and brothers-in-law, Mack and Hub. He is survived by: His Wife of 58 years, Virginia Johnson Son, Richard Johnson and wife, Carole Granddaughter/daughter, Sahvanna Johnson Grandchildren: Braedon Beauchamp, Brinleigh Beauchamp, Roger Vance, Ryan Johnson, and Tanner Burgess Brother, John Johnson and wife, Karen Sister, Carol George and husband, Paul Brothers-in-law, James Sweet and Carl Sweet His beloved dog, Chester Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services for LCpl Raymond Edison Johnson will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Preacher Hobert Kennedy. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. The Johnson family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Saturday evening at the funeral home.
