Leo Marvin Duty

Leo Marvin Duty, age 78 of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Amonate, Virginia and was the son of the late, Bill and June Grindstaff Duty. He was a graduate of Tazewell High School Class of 1956. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Jewell Smokeless and Jewell Ridge Coal Company where he worked as an electrician for many years. He was a proud member of the UMWA Local #2206. Leo loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was well known for his humble and kind nature. He enjoyed the solitude of sitting and enjoying the splendors of nature as he gardened and went fishing as much as time would allow him. He was a member of the Bandy Sportsman Club, of the Baptist faith and lived in the Tazewell County area for the last 46 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Billie Streeby and Janie Davis; brothers, Roger Lee Duty and Dale Allen Duty. Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: His loving wife, Betty Carol Lester Duty of Cedar Bluff, VA Daughter, Teresa Lynn Frederick of Wytheville, VA Son, Leo Marvin Duty, II, and wife, Michele Duty of Lebanon, VA Grandchildren, Mark Bandy and wife, Lindsey; Morgan Duty and Annie Duty Great grandchildren, Parker Bandy and Ily Bandy The funeral service for Leo Marvin Duty will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jackie Lester, Jeff Duty, Robbie Streeby, Jamie Altizer, James Martin and Parker Bandy. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Members of the Bandy Sportsman Club. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post# 9640. The family will begin receiving friends at 6:00pm on Friday evening at the funeral home.
