Leroy Sutherland

Leroy Sutherland, age 75 of the Baptist Valley community of Tazewell, VA died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the James H. Quillen VA Hospital in Mountain Home, TN. He was born March 14, 1942 at Richlands, VA and was a son of the late Otis Greer Sutherland and Ossie Mae Powers Sutherland. Mr. Sutherland was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and served in the Virginia Army National Guard. Leroy had worked for many years as a welder at S & S Machinery. He had a passion for playing the Lottery and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Salyers Sutherland; three sisters, Gladys Howington, Nellie McCall and Faye Fields; four brothers, June Sutherland, Herbert Sutherland, Elmer Sutherland and Eugene Sutherland. Those who survive to cherish his memory include two daughters, Vickie Osborne of Richlands, VA and Juanita Gail Sutherland of Gratton, VA; one son, Larry Sutherland and wife, Tonia of Baptist Valley, VA; one sister, Nancy Sutherland of Baptist Valley, VA; six grandchildren, Miranda Johnson and husband, T.J. of Tazewell, VA, Kelsey Sutherland of Baptist Valley, VA, Sylvia Carroll of Tazewell, VA, Morgan Sutherland of Baptist Valley, VA, Alicia Click and husband, Chandler of Pounding Mill, VA and Haliey Mash and husband, Hunter of Thompson Valley, VA; two great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons; his beloved dog, Harley; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive. Funeral Services for Leroy Sutherland will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Charlie McGlothlin and the Rev. Lawrence Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be T.J. Johnson, Hunter Mash, Chandler Click, Kenny Howington, Jerry Howington and Bobby McCall. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017.
