Lowell Claude Boyd

Lowell Claude Boyd, age 71, of the Horton Ridge section of Swords Creek, Virginia. The presence of Lowell Claude Boyd was required in heaven on Thursday, December 12, 2013. He was born in Swords Creek, Virginia and was the son of Vivian Plaster Boyd of Lebanon, Virginia and the late Claude Ellis Boyd. Lowell was a graduate of Honaker High School in Honaker, Virginia. He was a former Sunday school teacher for 12 years at Ivy Springs Baptist Church in Swords Creek, Virginia. He also served as PTA president at Swords Creek Elementary School for 12 years. Lowell was a member of the board at Southwest Virginia Community College, as well as the Russell County School Board. He was a founding member of Russell County PSA and served on the board for 27 years. He was a carpenter by trade for 50 years and was a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one step-son, Jamie Carner. In addition to his mother, he is survived by: His Second Wife, Alice Carner Boyd Three Daughters: Melissa Boyd Hood and husband, Barry of Claypool Hill, Virginia Stephanie Lynn Copen and husband, Greg of Waynesville, North Carolina Rebecca Anne Ratliff and husband, Brian of Wardell, Virginia Three Step Children: Paul Thomas Carner and wife, Mary Ann of Tip Top, Virginia Lonnie Edward Carner and wife, Kathy of North Tazewell, Virginia Laura Ann Carner of Tazewell, Virginia Two Step Grandchildren: Dustin Carner and Kelly Carner of the home Three Sisters: Lois McGlothlin of Churubusco, Indiana Rita Ward of Tazewell, Virginia Connie Comer of Lebanon, Virginia First Wife, Donna Williamson Mullins Also surviving are seven grandchildren and seven step grandchildren along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Lowell Claude Boyd will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Robert Whitt and Jerry Hess officiating. Interment will follow at Boyd Family Cemetery near Pine Creek, Swords Creek, Virginia. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Ratliff, Greg Copen, Barry Hood, Ed Carner, Wayne Bostic, and Paul Thomas Carner. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
