Luther M. Cordle

Luther M Cordle, age 84, of Raven, Virginia, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Doran, Virginia and was the son of the late John “Cat” and Irene White Cordle. He was a lifelong resident of the Doran and Raven area and was a former employee of the F.H. Hill Casket Company and was a retired miner from Jewell Smokeless Coal Corporation. He was of the Holiness faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Whited Cordle; three sons, James Henry Cordle, Walter Cordle, and Luther Cordle, Jr., and one sister, Ilene Griffith. Survivors are: Two Daughters: Alice Shelton and husband, Bob of Doran, Virginia Zella Johnson and husband, Billy of Raven, Virginia One Son: Ricky Cordle and wife, Cindy of Raven, Virginia Daughters in Law: Debbie Cordle and Pam Cordle Three Sisters: Frances Blankenship and husband, Billy of Doran, Virginia Wanda Lester of Doran, Virginia Minnie Cordle of Raven, Virginia Two Brothers: Buford Cordle and wife, Linda of Doran, Virginia Leonard Cordle and wife, Shirley of Richlands, Virginia Special Care Givers: Helping Hands Hospice and Laura Reynolds Sixteen Grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Luther Cordle will be conducted Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. David Osborne, Rev. Rick Whitt, and Rev. Dannie Short officiating. Interment will follow at the Newberry Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge near Raven, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Billy Johnson, David Shelton, Ryan Cordle, Nicholas Cordle, Tony Cordle, Bobby Cordle, and Brandon Byrd. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jeff Shelton, Richard Rife, Charlie Dye, Wayne Martin, Austin Martin, Curtis Whitt, and Jonathan McGlothlin.
