Luther Dales

Luther Dales, age 76, of Richlands, Virginia, formerly of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014 in a Pikeville, Kentucky hospital following a brief illness. He was born in McDowell County, West Virginia and was the son of the late Dock and Laura Mae Gilbert Dales. He had supported his family working in the mines for many years. He was a lifelong resident of the surrounding areas. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved to spend as much time with his family as possible. Luther loved to see the holidays come around so that all his family would gather in and be together. He spent his time sitting on his porch admiring nature and feeding the birds and squirrels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jonnie Mae Dales; one son, Dennis Dales; five brothers, Jimmy, Robert, Grimm, Danny and Carl Junior Dales; and three sisters, Agnes Keene, Stella Marie Hess and Frances Rizzico. Those who survive him are: His Daughter: Kathy Chafins and husband, Tim of Swords Creek, VA Rebecca McClanahan and husband, Steve of Taylorsville, NC Stella Dales of Raven, VA Mary Meadows and husband, Doug of Paintlick, VA Linda Lester and husband, Ronnie of Richlands, VA Sons; Sidney Dales and wife, Lisa of Lenoir, NC David Dales and wife Vicky of Hiddenite, NC Sisters: Judy Keene and husband, Bob of Cliffield, VA Shirley Ratliff of Abingdon, VA Brother, Leonard Dales of Vansant, VA Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, one step grandchild and nine great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services for Luther Dales will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Bobby Horn officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren, sons and sons-in-law. The family will receive friends at 5:00 until 9:00 pm on Sunday evening, April 20, 2014.
