Mabel Elizabeth Jackson

Mabel Elizabeth Jackson age 95, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. Mabel was born January 1, 1929, in Richlands, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Kelly Jackson and Mary Blevins Jackson. It is hard to truly capture the essence of a person with words, so to try and describe the type of person that Mabel was, imagine a pair of outstretched hands, that was always willing to be there in your time of need. Mabel had dedicated her life to being a nurse, she challenged herself to gain as much knowledge as possible so that she could help those in need. One of her favorite jobs as a nurse was when she worked in the psych ward in Princeton at the hospital because she wanted so desperately to help them. She had a master’s degree in nursing and taught for many years at the Southwest Virginia Community College. Many of her nursing students would say she was a tough teacher, but a fair one. Mabel was a very independent person, she did her yard work and refused to allow anyone to help her. She was dearly loved by her family and was considered another mother to her nieces and nephews. She had attended Community Heights Church and had lived her entire life in the Richlands area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Polly Ann Jackson, and Evelyn Maynard, and brothers, John Jackson, James Jackson, and Bobby Jackson. Those that remain to carry on her caring spirit are her: Sisters: Sue Peregoy of Cedar Bluff, VA Jean Sparks of Oneonta, AL Nephews and Nieces, Kelly Joe Maynard, J.W. Jackson, Tim Jackson, Steve Jackson, Tricia West, Dawn Harville and Tracey Kinder A committal service will be held at 2:20 PM on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum #4 in Claypool Hill with the Rev. Kelly Jo Maynard and Zack Collier officiating. Entombment will follow. The family will receive friends at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, on Monday, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.
