Marcus Deel

Mr. Marcus Deel, age 81, of Pounding Mill, Virginia passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, Virginia following a lengthy illness. He was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and was the son of the late William Burgy and Louisa Deel. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Korea war. Marcus worked in the mines for 30 years, before retiring from D&L&P Coal, Pittston Coal Company/Clinch Field Coal. He was of the Baptist faith and a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and Tazewell County, Virginia. Marcus was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Princie Deel, Buena England and Eve Mitchell; four brothers, Adam Deel, Abel Deel, Monroe Deel and Kermit Deel; one brother and sister who died at infancy, Emory Deel and Samantha Deel. He is survived by: His Loving wife of 19 years, Betty Arms McGlothlin Deel of Pounding Mill, VA Two Daughters: Regina Rasnake and husband, Roy of Harmon, VA Janifer Baker and husband, Cecil of Haysi, VA One Son, Denford Deel of Vansant, VA One Step-Daughter, Fay Short and husband, Jr of Raven, Virginia Four Step-Sons: Mark McGlothlin and wife, Sandra of Raven, VA Michael McGlothlin and wife, Naomi of Richlands, VA Jerry McGlothlin and wife, Tonya of Mavisdale, VA Jack McGlothlin and wife, Mary of Richlands, VA Four Grandchildren: Trista Blankenship, Amber Baker, Derick Baker and Brook Rasnake Six Step-Grandchildren: Blake McGlothlin, Ashely Hendricks, Deseree McGlothlin, Amber McGlothlin, Tausha McGlothlin and Elisabeth McGlothlin Several nieces and nephews also survive along with a host of family and friends. Funeral Service for Marcus Deel will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Roger Coleman and Rev. David Horton officiating. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, Virginia. Randy Deel, Matthew O’Quinn, Steve Deel, Brian McGraw, Michael McGlotlin, Blake McGlothlin, and Bruce Smith will serve as pallbearers.
