Mary Alberta Byrd

Mary Alberta Byrd, age 64, of Raven, Virginia passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. Mary was born on November 18, 1956 in Richlands, Virginia to Mildred Joanne Strouth McCowan the late Donald Fayne McCowan. She was a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mary Strouth Goodie and Hassell Strouth; her paternal grandparents, Wesley and Alberta Colbey McCowan; her sisters, Barbara Cruey, Donna Compton, and Tammy S. Doudy; her brothers, Junior McCowan and James McCowan. Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Mildred Joanne Strouth McCowan; Her husband, Edward McKinley Byrd, Sr.; Sons, Matthew Wesley Byrd and wife, Kristian of Raven, Virginia Edward McKinley Byrd, JR. and wife, Cassie of Raven, Virginia; Daughter, Crystal Byrd of Raven, Virginia Children of the Heart, Shawn Chase Nash and Jesse Brown and fiancé, Rebecca Cook; Sisters, Melissa Meadows of Richlands, Virginia and Janet Lawson of Richlands, Virginia; Brothers, Tim McCowan and wife, Nancy of WV Marcus McCowan and wife, Sabrina of Richlands, Virginia Tim McCowan, Jr. of Paintlick, Virginia Grandchildren, Kaiden Bryd, Brookelynn Byrd, Edward McKinley Byrd, III, Autumn Skai Byrd, and Destiny Hope Byrd. Several nieces, nephews, and a host of additional family and friends also survive. Funeral services for Mary Alberta Byrd will be conducted at 1 PM on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Reverend Dannie Short officiating. Interment will follow at Hankins Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia with Chase Nash, Jesse Brown, Darrell McGlothlin, Dylan Krafic, Jacob Shortt, Charlie Huffman, Stan McGlothlin, and Stanley McGlothlin serving as pallbearers. Kaiden Byrd, Edward McKinley Byrd, III, and Braxton Huffman will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 PM until the time of the service.
