Mary Margaret Hess

Mary Margaret Hess, age 90 of Jewell Ridge, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 21, 2021, following a lengthy illness. She was at her home in the loving care of family and friends. Margaret was born in Smith Ridge, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Jim Al Smith and Bertha Collins Smith. She worked for years as a waitress/hostess at the Ponderosa Steak House and several other restaurants. Margaret was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed bowling, sunbathing, taking daily walks and tacking quilts with her church family. Her heart held an endless love for her family and friends and that love will continue in their hearts because her spirit lives on in them. She had attended the Friendly Chapel in Jewell Ridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Anthony Joshua Hess; son, Roy Lee Hess; grandson, Mark Christopher Hess; sisters, Gladys Whittaker, Elsie Brown; brothers, Bill Smith, Bob Smith, James Smith and Dempsey Smith. Children: Teddie Eugene Hess and wife, Ellen of Aston Park, FL Gayelena Maupin and husband, Ed of Princeton, IL Frances Geraldine Noveen Grandchild, Toni Martynus of Princeton, IL Great grandchildren, Aisha Agrue, Alisha Spratt, Evan Bopes. Great-great grandchildren, Anthony Agrue, Lyndsey Towne, Caleb Towne, Avery Bopes, Brynley Spratt, Ayden McCarter and Azlyn Bopes. Special Nephew, Curtis Whittaker and wife, Lena of Richlands, VA Her special girls, Johnetta Altizer, and Kecia Altizer-Perdue Special thanks to her Angels on earth, Suzie Keen, Flo and Angie, Dr. Kahlon, Dr Bhat and Legacy Hospice. Special friends, Dottie Owens, Betty Young, Edna Short and the late Ms. Mitchell. A funeral service for Mary Margaret Hess will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Dwight Eads and Jordan White officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be, Tom Short, John Altizer, Dalton Altizer, Rick Short, Jeff Horne, Ed Lester and Jeff Robertson. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
