Mary Jane Jackson, a beautiful beacon of strength, love, and grace, stepped peacefully into eternity from her home on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of her family following a lengthy illness. She was 92 years old. Mary’s journey began on August 22, 1933, in Raven, Virginia, born to the late Andrew Lawrence Boyd and Lucy Virginia Rowe Boyd. Blessed with a sharp intellect and an independent spirit, Mary poured her talents into her work as a CPA and bookkeeper. She walked hand in hand with her husband, Harold, managing the finances of their coal mine operations and the Landmark Monument Company, building a beautiful life rooted in dedication and teamwork. To know Mary was to love her vibrant, unforgettable personality. Strong-willed and full of delightful sass, she brought joy and energy wherever she went. She was always perfectly put together, deeply elegant, and fiercely independent—never missing her weekly hair appointment. Mary had a profound passion for life and adventure. She and Harold shared a beautiful, globetrotting love story, exploring Hawaii, Japan, China, Egypt, Jerusalem, and the Holy Lands. Deeply anchored in their faith, they cherished the memory of being baptized together in the Jordan River, and they even bravely risked arrest in China out of a shared desire to distribute Bibles and share God’s love. Closer to home, Mary found pure joy in life's simple pleasures: cruising around in her pristine Cadillacs, playing to win at Bingo, and sitting by the ocean. Her absolute favorite place was the beach, where she spent countless hours teaching her grandchildren how to swim and searching the shoreline for shark teeth. Mary loved her church family at the Worship Hymn Church in Cedar Bluff, and she lived out her faith through her boundless generosity. She was a deeply devoted mother who adored her family and constantly went out of her way to nurture others. Holidays were the highlight of her year; she loved nothing more than cooking a massive feast and filling her home with the laughter of her loved ones. As she faced battles with cancer, surgeries, and illness later in life, her true grit and resilience shone brightly. Mary never once complained. No matter how she was feeling, she always smiled and replied, “I am fine.” She was an absolute pillar of strength and endurance. As she walked along the beach of life, she left permanent, loving footprints in the sands of our hearts. Mary is now joyfully reunited in heaven with her parents; her beloved husband, Harold Jackson; her siblings, Jack Beny Boyd and Nancy Absher; and her stepsiblings, Bill Null (Dora), Johnny Null (Audrey), and Margaret Null. Those left behind to cherish her memory and carry on her beautiful spirit include: Her devoted children: Dale Shreve and his wife, Sylvia Jean Donna Maynard and her husband, Larry Denise Smith. Her loving sister: Linda Absher. Her adored grandchildren: Kevin Shreve (Tina), Kimberly Smith (Freddie), Kris Shreve (Jessica), Tony Smith (Amanda), Andy Smith (Justin), and Ashley Mays (Andrew). Her precious great-grandchildren: Kaleb Shreve, Victoria Smith, Megan Smith, Karter Shreve, Kalen Shreve, Rory Smith, Chloe Osborne, Colton Farmer, and Maddie Farmer. Her exceptional caretakers, who provided endless comfort and love: Pam Boyd, Jarred Hughes, Pam Arwood, Diane Hall, and Hannah Cruey. A host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends also survive. The family will gather to honor and celebrate Mary's beautiful life at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia, with Rev. Jim Richardson officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Clinch Valley Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Honoring her as pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons: Tony Smith, Andy Smith, Kevin Shreve, Kris Shreve, Karter Shreve, and Kalen Shreve.
