Mary M Monk

Mary M. Monk age 93, of Richlands, Virginia was surrounded by her loving family at home when she went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 14, 2017. She was born in Russell County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Charlie Edward and Nora Lee Addison Reynolds Mary was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She spent many hours quilting and embroidering, and stitched a lot of love into her creations so her family could always be covered in loving care. Mary enjoyed canning vegetables and fruits so she could still have the freshness of harvest whenever she opened one of her jars. Her favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas, she carried the spirits of these holidays in heart because she was thankful for the gift of being surrounded by her family and feeling their love, laughter and joy. She worked with the Senior Companionship program for many years and she was a member of the Layman’s Chapel Church of Richlands, Virginia and had lived most of her life in the Tazewell County area. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence E. Monk, seven brothers and six sisters. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Her daughters: Martha Herndon of Mooresburg, TN Pearl Sargent and husband, Thomas W. of Richlands, VA Tina Lynn Garmon of Cedar Bluff, VA Sons: “Bill” William James Monk and wife, Francis of Richlands, VA Bobby Edward Monk and wife, Sherry of Talbot, TN Sisters: Anna Hess of Belfast, VA Pauline Ball of Belfast, VA Brothers: Henry Reynolds of Richlands, VA Clyde Reynolds and wife, Bessie of Crescent City, FL 11 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren also survive along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00pm on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Scottie Maxfield officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, at 11:00 am at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Dean Martin, Luke Martin, Matthew Monk, Larry Sizemore, Gary Sizemore, Clyde Mitchell Hess, Teddy Monk, and Zack Gilbert. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to be at the funeral home at 10:30am Tuesday morning. Friends may call after 6pm on Monday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
