Mary Nelson

Mary Gaynelle Mitchell Nelson, age 76 of Richlands, Virginia passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 at her home. She was born at Jewell Ridge, Virginia and was the daughter of the late James Milton and Barbara Ethel Vandyke Mitchell. She was a graduate of Richlands High School, Class of 1953 and had nurses training at Clinch Valley Hospital. She was an LPN for 43 years having worked at Clinch Valley Clinic, Mattie Williams Hospital, and Heritage Hall. She was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area and was a member of New Life Ministries. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters, Stella Cordill, Nina Meadows, Hazel Mitchell, Thelma Brown; and five brothers, Garfield, Elbert, Paul, Harland, James Mitchell, Jr. Those who survive her are: Husband, Marvin E. Nelson of Richlands, Virginia Two Daughters: Sharon Nelson of Richlands, Virginia Joyce Marie Mullins and husband, Bobby Keithel of Richlands, Virginia One Son, Michael Nelson and wife, Ruth Ann of Claypool Hill, Virginia One Sister, Oma Musick of Tazewell, Virginia Four Grandchildren: William Cordill, Michelle Bucklin, Mary Nelson, Shaunda Mullins Four Great Grandchildren: Ashton Bucklin, Kierra Brown, Hunter Sage, Blake Sage Funeral services for Mary Gaynelle Mitchell Nelson will be conducted Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev David Osborne and Rev. Delmar Somoskey officiating. Interment will follow at the Mitchell Family Cemetery on Reynolds Ridge near Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Ken Mitchell, Chris Mitchell, Adam Mitchell, Andy Mitchell, James Harman, Brandon Smith, Mark Smith, Roger Tabor, Ellis Harman and Billy Stinson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Matthew Mitchell, Jerry Nelson and Former Employees of Mattie Williams Hospital.
