Maude Boyd

Maude Reynolds Boyd, 99, passed away Saturday, October, 28, 2006, at her home in Raven. Born in Jewell Ridge, Virginia she was the daughter of Hugh Augustus and Fannie Matilda Johnson Reynolds. With the death of her mother at an early age, Maude was reared by her step-mother, Tina Rhoda Johnson Reynolds. She lived in the Richlands, Raven area her entire life. She was a graduate of Richlands High School where she excelled in academics and sports. She was a graduate of National Business College in Roanoke, Virginia. She also attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Radford University. Maude was a retired teacher having taught at Raven Elementary School nearly thirty years. She was an avid reader and a long-time member of Clearview United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Den Cook Boyd, Sr.; sisters, Virginia Lee, Lucille, Helen, and Mary; brothers, Clarence, John, and Tommy, and two sons-in-law: Joseph D. Whitt and James T. Compton. Survivors are: Two daughters: Doris Ann Whitt of Avon Park, Florida Charlotte Jeanne Compton of Longview, Texas Two Sons: James Bradley Boyd and wife Sylvia of Richlands, Virginia Den "Dee" Cook Boyd, Jr. of Fredericksburg, Virginia. One Brother: George Reynolds of Richlands, Virginia Nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and special caregiver, Frances Horn also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at 11:00am at the Hurst Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Paul Griffith and Rev Jim Denton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia with the Rev Stafford Compton officiating. Pallbearers will be: Charles "Chuck" Whitt, Gary Wayne Compton, David R. "Randy" Compton, James Bradley Boyd, Jr., Steven Brett Boyd, Keith Alan Boyd, Dr. Joe Milton Adair, Bobby Reynolds, and Kenneth "Mouse" Boyd.
