“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4:7 McGinnis Wayne (Mac) Rife, age 78, of Richlands, VA, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Mac was born on May 10, 1947 at Pea Patch, VA and was the son of the late Joe and Elizabeth Day Rife. Mac was a 1965 graduate of Whitewood High School and was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He was a retired custodian from Whitewood Elementary School. Mac was of the Pentecostal Faith and was a founding member and former Pastor of the Community Holiness Church (Shiloh Temple) at Pea Patch, VA and a Pastor at the House of Prayer in Jewell Valley, VA for many years. He was a current member of the Tabernacle of Praise in Richlands, VA. Mac loved going to church and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jason Rife; two sisters Rosa “Bernice” Ledbetter and Dinah Foley; and four brothers Ernest, Joe Jr., David and infant brother Donnie. Survivors include: His Daughter: Melissa Keen and husband Dwayne of Cedar Bluff His Son: Justin and wife Sandra of Cedar Bluff Two Grandchildren: Austin Keen and Madison Keen both of Cedar Bluff Mother of his children and caregiver: Sharon Rife of Jewell Ridge Special daughter-in-law: Tammy Cruey of Richlands Three Brothers: Tony Rife and wife, Dora of Woodlawn, VA Miles Rife and wife, Kathy of Jewell Ridge, VA Lonnie Rife and wife, Shirley of Whitewood, VA Three Sisters: Elouise Cooper of Galax, VA Anita Cicala of Greencastle, PA Doris Ruscio of Woodlawn, VA Mac is also survived by several special nieces and nephews and many friends. Special “Thank You” for the exceptional care Mac received during the duration of his illness to the following: Dr. Ramesh Kabaria and staff; Dr. Fady Tawardos and staff; Ultra Health Home Care and Helping Hands Hospice staff, nurses Chad Hurley, Tangie Scarberry, Carrie Matney and Anjelica Peace; Caregivers: Carolyn Street and Rhonda Westbrook Funeral services for McGinnis (Mac) Rife will be conducted Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 12pm at the Shiloh Temple Church on Pea Patch with the Rev. Keith Rife and Pastor Norma Mabe officiating. Burial will follow at the Rife Family Cemetery on Pea Patch. Nephews will serve at pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Allen Johnson and Brad Taylor. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 23, 2025 from 6pm until 9pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia. Military honors will be conducted at 7pm on Monday evening by the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640.
